The philosophic academy conceives its association as an organ for the promotion of the interdisciplinary academic and scientific discourse in the field of Cultural Studies, which is specifically aimed at in the frame of the annual symposium :
philosophic academy
Symposium for Philosophic-Cultural Studies
This conference wishes to address primarily students, but also young scientists of all disciplines which are not yet established, for their work to be given the opportunity to be acknowledged by a larger public. A specific subject shall be critically covered and analyzed from a diversity of perspectives through lectures and discussions. The main interest of the symposium lies in all questionings related to Humanistic, Sociological and Cultural Studies, whereas the different disciplines shall not only engage in a discourse, but in a dialogue with each other. The subject of the symposium will be announced at universities and research institutions throughout Europe, the invitation of the lecturers will be processed by the scientific director of the symposium after selection of the submitted applications. The conference papers of the philosophic academy will be edited in the collective publication.
Young scientists from the fields of Humanities and Cultural Studies standing at the very beginning of their academic career often find it extremely difficult to settle in the academic field. The intervention of the philosophic academy can offer a valuable support, where a lecture given on the scientific symposium and its following publication in a collective volume can open doors and smoothen their arduous path to a future scientific career.
An additional aim of the association is to give students the opportunity to address a larger public and to accurately examine their thoughts in a critical, thorough and profound debate with fellows.
But in a broader sense, the association is also generally engaged for the promotion of the scientific and cultural formation and the enhancement of the interest taken in philosophical questions amongst young people. This finality can be attained through the event of the philosophic academy, since we aspire to attract students from the most various disciplines for participating and involving them in the discourse.
We are firmly convinced that the multi-faceted exchange of ideas which surpasses institutional and national borders will raise an unbeatable argument for our work
Especially in times where we are witnessing the increasing closeness that the diverse States of the European continent tend to reach political- and cultural-wise, science should grasp the opportunity to establish a supra-regional and interdisciplinary network in order to overcome its own thought limits.
Since at the present the web is the crucial medium for the international connection, we would like to underline the social aspect of our work. It is precisely the filter of an electronic medium which is often responsible for reducing the knowledge exchange to a simple accumulation of mere facts, ignoring the phenomenological perspective of important social and emotional implications which should be conveyed and nevertheless represent a crucial dimension of knowledge exchange and mediation.
Our goal therefore is to connect the participants of the philosophic academy socially in the best possible way, and we look forward to additional and fructuous inputs generated by an interpersonal discourse which appears to be emotionally motivated as well.
But we also would like to point out the important role of art as a source of inspiration and mediation for the further development of Cultural Studies. We therefore, in the framework of the conference "philosophic academy: Symposium for Philosophic-Cultural Studies", also venture into reaching young artists not only in the foreseen frame program so that these shall have the possibility for an active participation in the debate and take it as a dynamic source of inspiration to further artistic treatments.
The philosophic academy conceives its association as an organ which is politically independent and is very keen on not being used as an instrument by any parties´ preoccupation or ideology. Nevertheless, it wishes to underline its ecological and social responsibility towards society.
